An unusually bright light in the Southwest Louisiana sky caused some concern for some Lake Charles area residents on Saturday night. The bright light was reported by several residents who live in and and around the Sasol Westlake facility.  This activity was reported to KPLC TV in Lake Charles who reported that witnesses said the light was apparently a larger than normal flaring.

Flaring is the process of burning off natural gas that can not be processed. It is common at many of the production facilities that call the Lake Charles area home. In this case the flare seemed be larger than normal and was followed by a large plume of smoke.

A check with authorities in and around the area indicated that no emergency situation was at hand and all was well with the production facilities and the neighborhoods around them.
