Post Office Announces Closure, Service Interruptions

(KMDL-FM) Postal patrons across Louisiana will need to make an adjustment in their expectations regarding services from the United States Postal Service. The good news is that USPS anticipates no issues with customers who would like to access kiosks for services such as postage printing for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and international shipping.

Not All Postal Services Will Be Affected During This Planned Service Interruption

The closing of locations and the suspension of delivery routes will be affected by this action, which has been confirmed by officials with the Postal Service. During this service interruption, postal customers should still be able to conduct business via the USPS website.

It should be noted that automated services will still be available at USPS facilities that are closed. Among the services that most postal customers should still be able to access are automated stamp machines. This means you should still be able to purchase stamps if needed.

Package tracking information should not be affected by this planned closure. Neither should customer access to Post Office lobbies, where customers should still be able to confirm and verify the weight of packages and, once proper postage has been determined, drop those parcels off for shipping.

Why Is The Post Office Closing Locations and Interrupting Mail Service?

The planned closure and service interruptions might come as a surprise to you, but they shouldn't be a shock. The Post Office has been doing this kind of operational diversion since 1894 on the first Monday in September. Yeah, the Post Office will be closed on Labor Day Monday.

That means Post Office service desks will be closed, but many self-service kiosks will be operational for customers who don't need the helping hand of a human. Mail delivery will be suspended on Monday for the Labor Day Holiday. Regular mail delivery will resume on Tuesday, September 8th.
