Lafayette Consolidated Government hosts a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Parc Sans Souci in Downtown Lafayette each year on the anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Centers.

The Louisiana Jeepers host a ride to the event each year, meeting at Cajun Field and riding convoy-style to Parc Sans Souci for the ceremony.

One of the members of Louisiana Jeepers, Pam Stutes, shot this video of today's ceremony.

The memorial consists of two steel beams that were salvaged from the site of the World Trade Center, one from each building. They are positioned in a manner that mimics their original orientation. The beams are rising out of a bed of dirt, some of which came from the field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed. The bench next to the memorial is made from limestone taken from the Pentagon, with a portion of the bench defaced to reflect the area where the Pentagon was struck by Flight 77.
