Weekend Fire Displaces Family of Five in Broussard
The barking of a family dog is being credited with saving the lives of five members of a Broussard family. The dog, named Bandit, alerted members of the Fanguy family to a fire that had broken out in their Hanchey Street home Saturday morning. Fortunately, the barking was enough to give everyone enough time to escape the blaze.
Investigators have not finalized their investigation into what caused the blaze but preliminary indications suggest that an electrical issue is a likely cause. The blaze did extensive damage to the family's home and damaged or destroyed many of their belongings.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to aid the Fanguy Family. Both Laycie and her husband Daniel are educators in Lafayette Parish. The family has three children, a 15-year-old boy plus two girls ages 11 and 8.
