On Saturday nights during the fall, a small parcel of land on campus at Louisiana State University becomes filled with enough enthusiastic LSU Tiger Football fans to be considered Louisiana's sixth-largest city. Yeah, a full Tiger Stadium would place it right between Lafayette and Lake Charles as far as the number of people is concerned.

Opposing teams who come into Tiger Stadium know to expect a large crowd anytime they play the Tigers. Not only is the crowd large, it's engaged. That means Tiger fans are loud and rowdy, and that gives the Purple and Gold of LSU a legitimate home-field advantage. But is Tiger Stadium the toughest place for an opposing team to play and to win?

The folks at EA Sports have done some research in advance of the release of their new EA Sports College Football 25 video game. The  EA Sports crew took into consideration the following information. The home team's winning percentage, home game attendance, active win streaks, and intangibles such as team tradition and prestige.

It is not surprising that the schools of the Southeastern Conference placed rather high on the list. The EA list included a dozen schools from the Southeastern Conference. So, basically half the list. Is there any question about the center of power in college football?

There were a few surprises on the list, the first one was the school ranked at number 25. That would be Mississippi State and the vaunted Davis Wade Stadium. There are a lot of reasons to be afraid of going to Starkville but playing at Davis Wade usually isn't one of them. But it was nice to see the Bulldogs included while that other team from Mississippi, the one with the loudmouth coach, wasn't even on the list.

Both Alabama and Auburn made the EA Sports list, Alabama was ranked considerably higher than Auburn but that makes perfect sense. I found the school and stadium ranked number one to be a big surprise. Especially when you consider they just lost a very high-profile coach after many high-paid years of failure, but that's who EA Sports picked at number one.
