Louisiana is a state of contrasts. Our southern parishes are wet and swampy. Our northern parishes are more like Texas. And the central part of our state makes the drive between Lafayette and Shreveport seem like an eternity, if you like "nothing" then you'll love I-49 between Natchitoches and the Shreveport city limits.

But despite the contrasts and the differences that our geographic regions create in the state, there is a certain "commonality" among the people that call Louisiana home. We have a lot of "shared experiences". Those experiences become part of the culture and if they stick around long enough, they weave their way into Louisiana folklore.

In order to gain insight for this article we asked just under 50 people over a period of three weeks this question: "How would you finish this statement, you know you are from Louisiana when..." At first, we were surprised at the variations in the answers, but then we started to see more and more common threads developing and that's what led us to create this narrative for you to enjoy.

Some of the answers are downright hilarious. Some of the other answers are the kind that makes you laugh at first, then they make you think, and in the case of the comments about hurricane scenarios, it will probably make you more than a little mad.

Sure it's true there are a lot of differences in the people that live in the various regions of our state but when you boil it all down, like we do along I-10, we are all a lot more alike than we are different in Louisiana.
