A crash in the 2100 block of Robley Drive around 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon leaves a 5-year-old girl dead and a mother and her one-year-old son in the hospital.
Lafayette Parish deputies say the 19-year-old woman lost control of her Chevrolet Equinox as she was driving north, spun into oncoming traffic and was hit on the rear passenger side by a Dodge pickup truck near the intersection of Longfellow Road. The mother is in critical condition while her one-year-old is in stable condition. The 53-year-old woman from Arkansas who was driving the pickup truck suffered minor to moderate injuries.
According to our news partners at KATC, the relation between the mother and the five-year-old girl is not known yet.
Deputies say both children had safety harnesses on; the one year was in a child safety seat. At this time it is unclear if the drivers were utilizing safety harnesses.
Routine toxicology tests are being conducted on both drivers and accident re-constructionists were on the scene documenting the evidence Sunday evening.
The identities are being withheld pending notification of family members.
