It's no secret that Louisiana loves Buc-ee's. The iconic Interstate oasis has been a staple on the travel scene for a decade or so and the company behind the beaver seems to be very intent on increasing its footprint. Well, increasing its footprint in every state but Louisiana.

Yes, it is true that a Buc-ee's location has been planned for the Ruston Louisiana area for motorists who frequent I-20 but let's face it, the Beaver Nuggets are good but not good enough to risk taking a ride up to Ruston just to get them. I mean, you might have to go through Olla and they bust people walking on foot for speeding in that town.

But residents of The Boot who just can't get enough of "The Beaver" can rejoice in knowing that there is a new Buc-ee's that is being built on I-10 and technically it is just minutes away from Louisiana. In fact, a Louisiana driver with additional weight on his or her right foot could actually leave Louisiana at 8 am and be at the new I-10 location of Buc-ee's in less than 30 minutes. But you'll have to leave Louisiana to go there.

You've probably figured out the new Buc-ee's we're speaking of is being built along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The mega-gas station with super clean restrooms and a great assortment of brisket and jerky is being built on I-10 in Harrison County, think Gulfport/Biloxi, at Menge Avenue.

That new store is reported to be one of the largest franchise locations in the company's holdings. It's estimated the facility will cover 70,000 square feet under its roof. For comparison, the Buc-ee's in Loxley Alabama, you know the one where the traffic is so bad? That Buc-ee's is only 50,000 to 55,000 square feet.

The I-10 Mississippi location of Buc-ee's is expected to be fully functional and open for business in December 2024. In the meantime, Mississippi officials are busy widening I-10 to ensure that traffic through the area will continue to flow smoothly, or at least as smoothly as it can around a Buc-ee's location.
