Most of the time when you see Lafayette's Herb "Pucci" Green out in public you're most likely to catch him on stage. As one of South Louisiana's most requested percussionists, Herb shares his talents with a variety of musical acts on stage and in the studio. He is just as at home with a cool jazz combo as he is with a full-blown party band. And, yes, all of those little gadgets that Herb has in his toolbox are all important to the overall sound.

Maybe that's why Herb Green has been such an instrumental, no pun intended, part of the fabric of Lafayette's music and musical education community. It's because Herb understands "the small parts" and how without those little extras the desired outcome will be lacking.

Herb has taken this same approach with his teaching too. His youth-filled Pucci Percussion group has traveled across the country demonstrating their talents and skills. Herb's Pucci Percussion group is made up of youngsters who are as young as four and five years old to some who are teenagers.

And each time they spend a few minutes with Herb they learn a little bit more about music and percussion and a lot more about life and what it takes to be successful in the pursuit of your dreams. Last year, with the support of the community, Herb took his group to New York City. Not only did they perform, but for many of the members of the group, it was their first time to ever leave Louisiana.

For his efforts in making our community a better place, Herb Green is being honored on Tuesday by Lafayette Consolidated Government. He is being recognized as a "Super Ambassador of the City of Lafayette".

There will be a ceremony honoring Green on Tuesday at 4 pm. The ceremony will take place at the City-Parish Hall building on West University in the Atrium.  As an added treat Green and some of his Pucci Percussion students will perform during the ceremony.
