In the Louisiana parishes that make up the part of the state known around the world as "Acadiana" food is a high priority. There is a saying among the locals that we don't eat to live, we live to eat. The region is known far and wide for spicy Cajun dishes, unique Creole combinations, and some amazing recipes for wild game and fish.

In a place where food is so revered you'd think hunger wouldn't be an issue. And that's where you're thinking would be flawed. A recent study suggested that one in four children in Louisiana face hunger every day. That translates to a little over 260,000 children in Louisiana not sure about when they'll have their next meal.

Second Harvest Food Bank has taken on the mission of making sure those children and the more than 500,000 adults in Louisiana who face hunger have food to eat. They are the subject of our Shaking Out the Good Stuff Spotlight compliments of Morton Salt.

One way you can assist Second Harvest Food Bank in their quest to quell hunger in Louisiana is to buy a duck. No, this isn't the kind of duck that made Gueydan famous, these are rubber ducks. And on June 29th at St Julien Park in Broussard Second Harvest Food Bank will host Acadiana's Duck Derby. It's a duck race and you could win $5,000.

And while that $5,000 incentive is nice your "purchase of a duck" will go to combat hunger in Acadiana. You might also win Raising Canes for a year, a UL Sports Ticket Package, and a slew of other great prizes. But the bottom line is you'll be doing your part to help put food on the table for thousands of Louisiana families.
