A south Louisiana man was killed by an alligator in the floodwaters in Slidell on Monday.

WAFB reports St. Tammany Parish deputies say the man and his wife were walking in floodwaters near their home, but after she went back inside the home, she heard some loud noises back outside and when she went to check it out, she saw a large alligator attacking her husband.

She ran over to her husband to try to help and managed to pull him out of the floodwater. Apparently, the gator swam off. The wife went to get first aid supplies, but she realized his injuries were very severe. She jumped in her pirogue to paddle about a mile away to get an EMS team, but when she returned to the home, the 71-year-old man was gone. She left him lying on the steps to the home.

Deputies searched all over the area but were never able to find the victim's body.
