An East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputy and his wife were hours away from checking into the hospital on Monday night to deliver their fifth child. However, a split-decision forced the father to take matters into his own hands.

Deputy Bruce Newman and his wife Maria were expecting a baby girl. Hours before Maria was scheduled for induction, she started going into labor.

Newman said his wife was in a little pain but they were going to try to bear through because induction was on Monday.

However, things got too bad and they decided to load up in their car with their one-year-old son and head towards Woman's Hospital from their home in Watson.

"I'm driving like crazy," Newman said. "Speed racing through the highways. I get off on O'Neal, pass by Ochsner, forget that's an option, and I make it as far as George O'Neal and Jones Creek."

But at some point, Newman realized the baby was coming so he pulled into a McDonald's parking lot, then jumped in the backseat.

"I was hoping she was exaggerating," Newman said. "I was really hoping EMS would get there."

With the help of a 911 operator, Newman delivered the couple's fifth child, a daughter named Olivia Belle. This is the couple's first girl and she ended up arriving six days early weighing six pounds and 15 ounces.

All are said to be doing great -- healthy and happy.

The parents say this will be their last child.

"No more, no more," Newman said. "You can't top this!"
