(KMDL-FM) Another day, another recalled product from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This time, the product involved is something that many of us use to help keep our homes clean. The problem with the product? Apparently, it can injure you even if you've followed all the directions on proper use.

According to the recall notice from the CPSC, this particular product was sold at Walmart stores and Target stores between October 2024 and March 2026. The product was also available via online retailers such as Amazon, HSN, and even a few other websites that offer cleaning products.

Recalled Product Estimated to Be in More than 1 Million Homes and Businesses

The extent of the recall is rather staggering, of course the product was available for purchase for almost two years. The CPSC speculates that some 1.7 million units have been sold and are currently being used to clean homes, offices, schools, daycares, and businesses across the country.

The product that is the subject of the recall is for 12 specific models of the BISSELL OmniReach Steam Cleaner. The recall was initiated after several reports of burn incidents involving the product.

The CPSC recall notice says the steam cleaners' attachments can unexpectedly detach from the unit and expel hot water or steam onto users during use. This presents a serious burn hazard.

Bissell has received over 200 reports of hot water or steam ejecting from attachments. In these reports, it was noted that 161 of them resulted in burn injuries. One burn was reported to be a second-degree burn.

Which Bissell Steam Cleaner Models Have Been Recalled?

There are 12 different models included in this recall advisory. Those include the 4155 series and the 4171 series. Here are the details on the model numbers and accessories as reported by the CPSC:

The affected model numbers are 4155, 4155L, 4155W, 4155G, 4155D, 4155J, 4155Y, 4155P, 4171, 4171L, 4171W, and 4171F. The model numbers are located on the product rating label on the bottom of the unit. The recalled units were sold in green, gray, white, blue, and dark blue. Depending on the model, the products include an accessory nozzle, grout brush, round detail brushes, flat scraping tool, and angle concentrator tool, and may also include an extension hose, fabric steamer, and steam squeegee. The attachments and the hose are gray in color.
