Tonight, like many other Monday's in the past, downtown Lafayette will not go quietly into the nighttime hours. The area in and around Jefferson Street Pub will be filled with music beginning at 5 PM. That music and the party the music attracts will continue until 10 PM.

It's Blue Monday, a regular monthly jam session that is hosted by Jefferson Street Pub and is a benefit show for Acadiana area musicians. The proceeds from the evening go to Life Care Services. That's an organization that helps take care of the medical needs of aging musicians and artists in the area.

The Blue Monday Jam Session stage will be filled with some of South Louisiana's greatest players. You never know exactly who and you never know exactly when they'll be showing up for a song or two. Among the musicians who have been known to slide in for a ride include the legendary Carol Fran, Lee Allen, Lil Buck Sinegal, Major Handy, and others.

There is a $5 cover to get in and it's more than well worth it especially when you consider the caliber of entertainment you'll be treated to and the eventual use of the revenue generated. Blue Monday happens the second Monday of every month at Jefferson Street Pub downtown. Food and drink will be available at a nominal price.
