Sad news out of St. Tammy Parish as the body of a crabber who fell into a Lacombe-area canal was pulled from the water earlier today.
(Lacombe is on the northshore of Lake Ponchatrain in between Mandeville and Slidell.)
The identity of the man has yet to be disclosed.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, their Marine Division searched a waterway in the area of Lake Road for around 30 minutes on Wednesday morning for the crabber after witnesses reported hearing splashes and called 911.
Witnesses said the man had been crabbing from a bridge in the area.
The Sheriff's Office said that his body was found shortly after 11:00 am around 40 feet from where he had fallen into the water.
The body has been turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death and for positive identification.
