Our Morton Salt "Shaking Out the Good Stuff" spotlight this week shines on an event that brings its own source of "light" to the party. This Wednesday night thousands of runners, walkers, families, and friends, will gather in Town Square at River Ranch to complete a distance of just over 3 miles. And over the course of that journey, they'll help support families in Acadiana that are fighting, surviving, and living with cancer.

Back in 2003, Camellia Crossing was a new idea for Miles Perret Cancer Services.  The group took advantage of the newly opened, although not open at the time, Camellia Boulevard Bridge in Lafayette. The "Crossing" was going to be the "first-time" residents were allowed to use the new bridge, so there was that bit of intrigue to go along with the desire to help the needs of MPCS.

Fast forward some 20 years and Camellia Crossing has grown from "just a 5k" to become Acadiana's Gleaux Run. Sure, it's still a 5k but the colors are brighter and you're encouraged to wear your glow colors and bring your glow sticks to help light up the night.

From what we hear, registration is already breaking records for this year's event but you can still get in on the fun. Here's the breakdown of the schedule of events for Wednesday night. This is courtesy of the Miles Perret website.

Participants should know that this year's event will incorporate a new "wave-style start". You will find out what "wave" you are in when you get your race bib. This change in starting procedures should allow those who want to run for a personal best time a clear track and give those who want to just walk the freedom to approach the course at their own pace.
