As the very dangerous Cat 3 Hurricane Florence heads straight for South and North Carolina, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department took to their Facebook page to urge people to vote for their lip-sync challenge video because they "LOST THE LEAD BY A TON!!" They even took time to make a cheeky little video about it. I am so confused right now.

As State officials impose mandatory evacuations, an approximately 400 mile-wide Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph is headed straight for the Carolinas.

Honestly, I've been scratching my head about this trying to figure out what I'm not understanding. I'm not trying to be all gloom and doom, it just feels like more important things need attention. Evacuation routes, flooding preparations, shelter information, sandbag locations...things like that come to mind. Hustling votes to win a lip-sync battle is just not even in the playbook of what's important right now.

I know they put a ton of time and effort into the video, I get it. And for the record, I think it's great. But, winning went out the window when the state of emergency and mandatory evacuations started. That's just the breaks y'all.

The National Hurricane Center projects 6 to 10 inches of rainfall for the Charlotte area, along with wind-speeds of 50 to 70 miles per hour.
