Cirque de Soleil Files for Bankruptcy
One of the most successful high-flying, death-defying, awe-inspiring events is getting a new safety net: Cirque de Soliel has filed for bankruptcy protection.
According to CNN Business, the Canadian troupe is hoping to get help from its government and private investors.
The reason? The coronavirus outbreak. At least 16 shows were put on hold due to the COVID-19 restrictions set in place by municipalities across the globe. At the time of the first shutdown, Cirque had 6 resident shows in Las Vegas and 10 shows on the road.
The story goes on to say that it is believed Cirque de Soliel has over $1B in debt and has already laid off approximately 3,500 employees.
