Costco Recalling Popular Beverage Over ‘Explosion’ Risk
(KMDL-FM) It used to be that folks would wake up and check the weather forecast. However, recent events have made it seem as if we'd all be better off if we woke up and checked online to see which products we bought yesterday have been recalled today. Yeah, the recalls have been fast and furious, and one of the leading retailers involved, simply because they sell so many items, is Costco.
If you were not aware, Costco keeps a running and updated list of items that have been recalled or subjected to scrutiny by consumers, manufacturers, or government agencies. It's a great way to make sure that the items you are purchasing and shopping for are safe for your family to use and offer you value for your shopping dollar.

As we have mentioned in several articles about recalled products, one of the main reasons for a product recall has nothing to do with the product itself. In many cases, products are recalled because of label or packaging mistakes. One of the more common failures is failure to list a specific ingredient that could potentially expose individuals with allergies to the allergens they need to avoid.
What's The Explosive Reason Behind Costco's Latest Recall?
However, in the case of this particular product that is being recalled by Costco, it is not the labeling or the wording on the package that is the cause for concern. Nor are the folks at Costco concerned with the product contained within the package. The concern is that the product could cause the packaging to explode and shatter.
Exploding contents with a potentially shattered package, we must be talking about a bottle of wine or some other carbonated beverage. We are. The wine in question is the Kirkland Signature Prosecco sparkling wine. To make this recall even more fun, the folks at AllRecipes.com are reporting that the wine bottles could explode and shatter even when they are not being touched.

The specific recall was noted for shoppers in a dozen states; Louisiana and Texas were not listed, but we do know the product is sold in Costco Warehouses in those states. Perhaps there were changes to the packaging, or the product was packaged in a different manner for consumers in those states. Regardless, if you have the Kirkland Signature Prosecco wine in your home, be careful with it.
What Do I Do If I Have This Recalled Product in My House?
The concern over "explosions and shattered bottles" is so great that Costco is advising consumers to "wrap the bottle in a towel or plastic wrap" before placing them in the garbage. I would also imagine it would be a better idea to put the trash containing the bottle in the outside bin because an exploding bottle of wine in your kitchen garbage might just ruin your day.
