As New Orleans Saints fans know, this season has just been a waste. 5-9 and missing out on the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons is not what we call successful by any stretch of the imagination.

On top of that, there are a lot of bad contracts on the roster, including Jarius Byrd and Brandon Browner.

Oh, and let's not forget that the team will owe Drew Brees $30 million next year if they keep him. So will they?

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, New Orleans could be hosting not only Drew Brees but also Sean Payton for the last time today at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The reasons being for Brees is the aforementioned money owed in the last year of his five-year, $100 million deal he signed in 2012. To keep him, he will likely have to take a hometown discount on what likely will be his last contract extension.

Inside the Saints' organization, some feel frustration around Brees' massive contract. Since 2012, they feel it has contributed to some of the depth issues on the team. Additionally, the team has run into salary cap problems over the last three years.

As far as Sean Payton goes, certain NFL executives have said "never say never" when it comes to the long-tenured coach moving on from the team. Although we've heard these rumors before, he would likely be a hot commodity on the open market. And according to Rapoport, Payton is searching for potential landing spots just in case.

One of those spots could be the Chargers. The team will likely be moving to Los Angeles and Payton does have a daughter in school in southern California. Furthermore, the team is having one of their worst seasons ever and could likely part ways with their coach, Mike McCoy.

All of this is just fodder for now, but we'll likely see what will or will not unfold shortly after the season ends next Sunday.
