Could These Health Foods Actually Be Harmful to You?
I love food. We all love food. What I love even more is when I can eat things that are good and healthy! However, there may be a down side to some healthy foods we love to eat.
Before I tell you what they are, I will say this one thing. These foods aren't actually bad for you when eaten in decent proportions.
They include:
- Kale
- contains a compound (thiocyanate) that, in high amounts, can cause hypothyroidism and can lower your metabolism if you eat too much.
- Avocado
- has more calories that a hamburger at McD's (about 250 calories); normal serving size is 50 calories or a fifth of the avocado
- Salmon
- upside: it is rich in omega-3s, selenium, B12, and protein downside: contains mercury which is a neurotoxin that can cause mercury poisoning and neurological damage in large amounts
Now that I have probably freaked you out, here is the thing to remember. Any food can be harmful to your body if you eat it in excessive. All you have to remember is to follow the serving size and don't eat more than your body can handle.
Happy and Healthy Eating!
