
What Delta’s New Rules Mean For Flying Out of Louisiana
(KMDL-FM) Louisiana has seven commercial airports. You can catch flights to other places from Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria, Shreveport, and Monroe. Most of the flights out of most of those airports are regional flights. The exceptions, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, offer more destinations and more flights.

One of the airlines that serves each of these airports is Delta Airlines. Delta is based out of Atlanta, Georgia, and almost all of the flights that leave Louisiana are heading to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

Most of the flights from Louisiana to Atlanta are under two hours in length. So, how does a proposed food and beverage policy change at Delta Airlines affect your flight out of Louisiana?
Beginning next Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Delta will discontinue food and beverage service on all flights of 350 miles or less. The airline says the move is being made to offer a more consistent experience across the Delta network. Of course, passengers who pay for First Class travel will be offered food and beverages on all flights.
Of all the flights that take off for Atlanta from Louisiana and return to Louisiana from Atlanta, how many of them are affected by the new Delta food and beverage policy?
Are Delta Flights Out of Louisiana Too Short to Qualify for Food and Beverage Service?
We know the cutoff line is 350 miles. We know that flights on Delta from Louisiana to Atlanta are fairly short in duration, but how many miles do they cover? I would say New Orleans is the closest Louisiana destination to Atlanta, so if NOLA is "in the service circle," everyone else should be as well.

According to Google, the direct flight distance from MSY (the New Orleans Airport) to ATL ( the Atlanta Airport) is 425 miles. That puts NOLA outside the no-service window, and that means the rest of us will be getting a Coke or Coke product; they are based out of Atlanta after all, and our cookies, crackers, or pretzels on our flight.
