Disney Confirms ‘Magical Tradition’ Will Not Return for Christmas
(KMDL-FM) The words "Disney" and "Magic" are often intertwined in our emotional recollection of what we like to call "the good ol' days". Nobody knows more about playing your heartstrings than the folks at Disney do, so I am sure it is with some sadness that the "House of Mouse" has announced an end to the amazing life-sized gingerbread house display inside the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
If you've ever visited a Disney park during the holidays, you know, they, the folks at Disney understand how to make holidays special. One of the more charming and less upfront and in-your-face ways that Disney made Christmas seem old-fashioned was through the breathtaking artistry of their gingerbread houses.
How Do They Make a Life-Sized House Out of Gingerbread?
The folks at Disney have an amazing time-lapse video of the life-sized structure being created. It's worth a watch, and you'll be impressed with not only how well Disney artisans can cook, but their skills as architects are pretty impressive as well.

I had the chance to be at the Grand Floridian during the holidays, and even my most cynical self was moved by the simple creations, which were anything but simple, made of flour, water, sugar, and probably some other things that are the reason why there are signs all over the displays telling you not to eat the houses.
The entire lobby of the hotel smelled of Christmas. The aroma from the gingerbread and the sugary decorations really did an air of "magic" to the holiday experience. Then my daughter left her mouse ears in the bathroom, and someone took them, and like it often does, "magic" left the building.
What Will Replace the Life-Sized Gingerbread House at The Grand Floridian Resort?
The Disney Life-Sized Gingerbread display at The Grand Floridian was missing during the 2025 holiday season because the Grand Floridian was undergoing renovations. And it was decided earlier this year that the life-sized gingerbread display would not be created in 2026 or moving forward.

Instead, the lobby's holiday centerpiece attraction will be replaced by miniature displays created by the culinary team. Those displays will be positioned throughout the property so that guests might enjoy them at their leisure.
