Dollywood Theme Park has announced plans for a new attraction that just might scare the pants off of you. Actually, your pants should be just fine but you might want to hold on to your hats because the cat is out of the bag about Big Bear Mountain.

Big Bear Mountain is the latest addition to the popular East Tennesee theme park's repertoire of rides and it promises to be one of the most exhilarating. According to a press release from Dollywood the coaster features cars that are designed to look like SUVs. But these aren't your mother's SUVs. These cars go really fast through some really tight situations.

The new attraction is scheduled to open next year in Dollywood's Wildwood Grove area. The roller coaster track is a little over half a mile long at 3,990 feet and during the almost two-minute heart-stopping ride guests will zoom around corners and over swells and hills at speeds approaching 50 miles per hour.

To add even more excitement to the ride the cars will feature "in-car audio" which will not only play music but will play advice from Ned Oakley. Ned is the "fictional" caretaker of the Wildwood Grove's mascot Benjamin Bear. In fact, the theme of the ride is to take the guests on a quest to find Dollywood's most storied and elusive inhabitant Big Bear.

Here's a glimpse of what a few minutes on the Big Bear Mountain Coaster might look like.

Dollywood says the new ride should be open for the 2023 season and they are booking Pre Season Passes for the park and the new ride through September 30th. If you're wondering, there is a height requirement to ride, you must be at least 39 inches tall.

If you're planning on making the trip the drive time from the Lafayette area to Pigeon Forge Tennessee is a little over 11 hours but it's well worth your time. In fact, the entire area around Pigeon Forge is a great getaway for those who enjoy theme parks, musical shows, arts&crafts, and my favorite, not-so-gosh darn hot temperatures.

The Dollywood website is offering guests a chance to register to be one of the first to ride Big Bear Mountain, so if you're a coaster enthusiast you might want to try your luck at a once-in-a-lifetime experience, okay, until you ride it again.

Meanwhile, as you plan your vacay with Dolly next year, here are some things you can do right here at home.
