There's a rumor going around that if you set your iPhone's date to January 1st, 1970 then reboot your phone, that you'll unlock a secret "Retro Mode".

Supposedly it has the old rainbow colored Apple logo and a bunch of other stuff.

Nice, but don't do it, it's a hoax.

First of all, Apple wasn't founded until 1976, so a 1970 retro mode wouldn't even make sense. Secondly, and even worse, you'll permanently destroy your phone if you do it.

If you set your date that far back, it screws up the software in your phone and crashes it for good.

There's a chance they can fix it at the Apple Store, but it's more likely you'll just have to buy a new phone.

The good thing is that it's fairly difficult to set your phone date back that far. You have to do a lot of long, boring scrolling, which means you have to really want to do this.

Let's not and say we didn't.
