Drew Brees Coming to Lafayette in May

A new event coming in May celebrating the top high school athletes in the Acadiana area will feature a future Hall of Fame quarterback in New Orleans Saints star Drew Brees.

Brees will be the guest speaker at the inaugural 2016 Best of Preps banquet at the Cajundome Convention Center on May 17. The event is sponsored by the Super Chevy Dealers of Acadiana and presented by our friends at The Daily Advertiser.

“Our entire staff at The Daily Advertiser is thrilled to bring Drew Brees to Acadiana to honor both male and female top prep athletes,” said Judi Terzotis, president and publisher of The Daily Advertiser.

“The evening will be an ‘ESPY-like’ experience that will celebrate the students’ high school athletic careers. This event aligns nicely with our mission to raise up our community and shine a light on what makes Acadiana a truly special place to live.”

Drew Brees knows the importance of high school sports.

“At the end of the day, especially at this level for kids going into high school, it’s all about having fun,” Brees said. “Yes, you’re wanting to compete. Yes, you’re wanting to win. You’re wanting to continue to improve, and yet, it’s about creating a great experience, for one, that you’ll carry forever.”

The banquet will honor top performers in high school football, baseball, volleyball, wrestling, softball, golf, and both boys and girls swimming, cross country, soccer, basketball, tennis, and track and field.
