Louisiana's United States Senate race just took another muddy turn.  In a move that seems strikingly similar to a nasty third grade class president election, it was announced that the United States House of Representatives would be investigating an ethics complaint concerning candidate and congressman Bill Cassidy.

This complaint was filed with the Office of Congressional Ethics and it urged the office to look into allegations that Mr. Cassidy was compensated for work he did not perform as a doctor with LSU health services. The complaint suggests that Cassidy's actions would be a violation of house rules and Federal law if they were shown to be true.

University of Louisiana Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says this investigation will most likely occur eventually but will most  likely have very little effect on the Senate runoff election this Saturday.

"But they probably won't take it in haste, which means any effect it might have, would be long after the current election cycle is over,"

Cross' comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network. He went on to say the fact that Cassidy has had an ethics complaint filed against him only evens up the score in this very muddy battle between Cassidy and incumbent Mary Landrieu.

"This race has been remarkably tit-for-tat, and I suppose if Landrieu should have a ethics campaign complaint launched against her and I suppose Cassidy should too, just to even up the score,"

The Landrieu ethics investigation was concerning accusations that she used tax payer money to charter an airplane to attend a campaign event.
