Free Prom Dresses Will Be Given Away to Local High School Kids

Free prom dresses will be given away to local high school kids who need them. The Butterfly Effect Project will have its annual Prom Dress Giveaway on Sunday, March 14th, 11 AM - 5 PM at the Northgate Mall. All dresses will be given away free. There is no waitlist or priority list. You must have your high school ID or a recent report card. It will be a fun event with a full red carpet runway, free photos with the magic mirror, and giveaways.

Butterfly Effect Project Facebook

The mission of the Butterfly Project, formerly the Cinderella Project, is to support young adults statewide. Their goal is to provide educational outreach and community-based projects that are designed for teenagers to build their confidence and self-esteem. The Butterfly Project accepts community donations of new and/or gently used formal dresses, formal shoes and accessories. They give everything at no cost to high-school girls in need hoping to transform lives. Through the outpouring support of the community, this has helped many young ladies. Many girls around Acadiana look forward to the annual dress giveaway.

A few weeks ago, the Butterfly Project did a Facebook post asking for 60 dresses in 60 days. They said “almost as a joke”, they shared the Dress Diaries’ Facebook page and asked for dresses. Needless to say, they were shocked when the owner of Dress Diaries responded to them promising to support their event. They so generously donated 25 gorgeous formal gowns. The owner said he wants to make sure every girl, no matter what their size or style, have options. By the way, the dresses that were donated by Dress Diaries were not clearance items or damaged goods. This is why I love Acadiana. For more information, contact kangelety@gmail.com.
