Spring is finally here, and even though there are still a few things that won't go on as planned due to the pandemic, we are ready to get outside and enjoy our beautiful state this weekend. We can always find something to love, even if it means a short road trip.

Our wonderful Louisiana Department of Tourism always has great resources for whatever it is you want to experience in our state, and they have a fun list of things going on this weekend. I've added in a few of my own favorites as well, so get out and enjoy yourself this weekend, fellow Louisianians.

  • Boggy Bayou Festival, Pine Prarie, May 7 and 8. This fun festival is back this year, with carnival rides, great food, and live entertainment, including "Dukes of Hazzard" star John Schneider on Saturday night
  • Barksdale Air Force Base Defenders of Liberty Air Show, May 8 and 9. Come see a spectacular air show on the grounds of the historic base in Bossier Parish. Gates open at 9:00 am and the show starts at 11:00 am. Admission and parking are free, but you must have a ticket, get them here.
  • Free First Fridays at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, May 7, 925 Camp St New Orleans. Students can enjoy a tour of one of the premier art museums in the state by showing their student ID during regular business hours. One of my favorite museums!
  • Landry Vineyards Spring Concerts, Saturday, May 8, Monroe. 4:00 pm- 7:00 pm. This weekly outdoor concert series is held on the grounds of the beautiful vineyard, and you can bring your lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the Mike McKenzie Band this week. Food and wine available for purchase during the show.
