Usually in this space on Friday's we extol the virtues of Chef Jill McCoy and her diversity in the kitchen. This time we are not asking our culinary queen for a recipe we are asking for some advice for Christmas shopping.

Jill loves Christmas. Jill loves to shop. Jill loves to cook. So we thought we'd pick her brain and get some gift ideas on what to get the foodie in your family.

I guess we should be clear here. There are two kinds of foodies. There are the foodies that like to eat. Then there are the foodies like to cook and then eat. I think we have a little something for everybody in Chef Jill's suggestions.

Jill's first idea is a sharp knife or a good set of knives. Nobody should even make toast without a good knife. There are many great brands to choose from and the prices ranges will fit any budget. What you're looking for is a good blade and solid balanced handle. Chef Jill suggests you actually pick up the knife and see how it feels in your hand. If it feels solid and seems to be balanced correctly chances are you and the person you're giving it to will love it.

On Jill's next suggestion guys we have to be careful giving this kind of a gift. It's a gift that has a power cord. I've gotten in a lot of trouble  giving gifts that plug in. In this case Jill is talking about  giving a food processor or blender. These are must have items in the kitchen if you want to make your life easier. Just remember to get her something else besides the blender or food processor or she might be using that new knife for purposes other than which it was intended.

Another gift that serves several purposes is the slow cooker. These are great. You can start  your meal in the morning and when you get home from work dinner is served. Slow cookers range in sizes that can accommodate a small family up to sizes that can feed the masses. I have a nice rectangular slow cooker that I use for turkeys, roasts, and large pots of chili.

Jill has some other great ideas for the foodie on your list at her person blog. I do hope you'll check it out and give her some loving when  you do.
