As gas prices plummet through the U.S., oil and gas giant Halliburton has announced they will be making thousands of cuts in multiple markets, Houston falling as first of reportedly more to come. No word yet on cuts, if any in Acadiana.

From KATC -

"While these reductions are difficult, we believe they are necessary to work through this challenging market," Halliburton spokeswoman Emily Mir said in an emailed statement to the blog. Mir did not say how many workers would be laid off.

KATC reached out to Halliburton on Wednesday morning to ask if any Lafayette workers would be laid off and we are awaiting the company's response.

Tuesday's announcement comes about two months after Halliburton announced the acquisition of Baker Hughes in a cash-and-stock deal worth $34.6 billion."
