Election night will be very interesting in Louisiana. This election night there will be an even broader interest in our state because of the United States Senate election.

On one hand you have a multi-term incumbent Mary Landrieu. On the other hand you have a strong republican challenger in Congressman Bill Cassidy. On the the third hand, that most of us don't have, you have Rob Maness, a tea party backed conservative that could tilt the election one way or the other.

The latest poll numbers reported by CNN show Landrieu would get the largest number of votes on November 4th. That same poll also suggests that she would not get enough votes to reclaim the Senate seat outright. That same poll suggests that if the race did go to a runoff between Landrieu and Cassidy that the Republican, Cassidy would prevail. But the margin of error and the undecided voters still make the race too close to call.

Louisiana Monroe Political Science professor Joshua Stockley says of the latest CNN numbers that Cassidy's support is strongest among white voters.

"The poll indicated that Cassidy has a 71-to-26 percent lead among whites, that's phenomenal,"
His comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network.
