Laughing All the Way – Funny Church Signs Light Up the Holidays
When I was a kid, granted that has been more than a few Louisiana Christmas Days ago, the church was not a place where you laughed. When you went to services in Slidell or Carencro for Catholic Mass or plopped in a pew in Ruston or Pineville for the Baptist version of "living right" it wasn't supposed to be fun.
Or perhaps I was a rebellious child who had issues with sitting still. To me it seemed as if going to church wasn't as much fun as hitting the arcade at Chuck E. Cheese or rolling a few frames at the local bowling center. So it is possible that worship services have always had light and levity and I was just too immature to notice.
Now that I am older, and not much more mature, I find a lot of humor in church. I do think our creator, okay my creator, has a sense of humor. The higher power made me and anyone who knows me can tell you what a joke I am. Self-deprecation is still a good thing, isn't it?
Regardless I believe laughter and love bring you closer to your connection with the power that created you and there is a church in Alabama that I have been made aware of that absolutely gets that concept.
The church is First Baptist in Madison Alabama and their social media sites are overflowing with humor, compassion, and kindness as they invite friends from far and wide to celebrate this Christmas Season and just revel in the joy that laughter can bring.
Here are some of the church's "best" if you ask me.
My personal favorite is the sign that reads "Nothing is Truly Lost Until Mom Can't Find It". It's funny because it's true.
The humorous approach to salvation is the brainchild of Senior Pastor Amos Humphries. Humphries arrived in Madison, Alabama after spending time at a church in Waco, Texas. He told Al.com the practice of engaging the public with humor worked in Waco and he is very pleased the concept is being embraced at his new north Alabama sanctuary.
I believe the Almighty would find some of Pastor Humphries's signs to be "mighty funny" and I do believe we were put on the Earth to laugh more than to cry. Thank you, Pastor Humphries, God Bless you and the Congregation at First Baptist in Madison. I haven't met you, but I feel as if I know you. Merry Christmas.
