If it's true that your ears start burning when people talk about you then LSU Coach Les Miles hat must be about to catch on fire. Miles' name has again surfaced in the rumor mill for the head football coach opening at the University of Michigan. There is a connection between Michigan and Miles, he is an alumnus of the school and the school is looking for a good football coach. Despite what some callers to ESPN 1420 might have you believe, Les Miles is a good football coach.

This wouldn't be the first time Miles' name has been mentioned for the top job at Michigan. The Wolverines seem to have lost their place in football prominence ever since Bo Schembechler retired in 1989. A champion coach like Miles would give new life to a marginally good football team in a substandard conference. Chances are it won't happen.

In the world of college football you never say never but unless Coach Miles really has a love affair with his former school and he likes an nearly impossible challenge he is going to stay put with the LSU Tigers. LSU is in a much better position to be a national championship contender now than Michigan will be in the next 10 years. The coach has recruited the players he wants and needs to continue to be successful at LSU too. He's turned down Michigan two times already, I'm pretty sure if there is a third offer the answer will most likely be "no" again.

The fact of the matter is that LSU despite a disappointing season by Tiger standards is a program that will be in the national championship hunt almost every year. The caliber of players already assembled in Baton Rouge would be better than a Big 10 conference all star team right now. They play better football in the SEC than they do anywhere else. Why would you want to be a big fish in a small pond when  you can be one of the bigger fish in the best pond in the country.
