If you look around a lot of Louisiana homes you're going to find a jar, a box, a bottle, that is full of change. You remember change, right? It usually came in the form of coins that you got along with a retail purchase. That was back when people used to use actual cash to buy things.

In most cases, the money we receive back in the form of change we take at face value. If we have a quarter, two dimes, and three pennies we figure we have .48 cents, but maybe if we looked closer at that change we could find ourselves with a lot more "value" in our pocket than what the denominations on the coins suggest.

This is where the numismatists enter the picture. If you're not familiar with the word, numismatist is a five-dollar word for "coin collector".  And many of them will tell you that you should be sifting through your change regularly. The reason? Some very valuable coins are still in circulation in Louisiana that could enhance your net worth by millions of dollars.

Based on our rough calculations using data gleaned from the website GoBankingRates.com we have determined that at any given moment you could have a nickel and four pennies in your pocket that would be worth 4.32 million dollars. Yeah. the face value is .08 cents but the collector value (estimated at auction) is over $4.3 million.
