In Louisiana, most cruises begin at the fabulous Port of New Orleans. New Orleans makes a great embarkation port because it can be a "destination" on your cruise. It's like the cruise ship is your hotel and you stay in town, explore the French Quarter, go to Jackson Square, maybe do some shopping on Magazine Street, and then the next day the ship actually leaves the port.

Not all cruise lines book itineraries like that but it's a pretty good option if you'd like to spend some more time on your "port city" before you disembark on your vacation to distant lands.

As a veteran of many cruises, it's pretty easy to spot the "newbies" on board. They are the people who usually spend the first evening being overserved and the first day following being hungover. But you're on vacation so, you're supposed to have fun, right?

Well there are limits to what "fun" is on board a cruise ship and we have discovered that there are five instances or incidents that could prematurely end your onboard excursion or even worse, get you banned from a cruise line for life. It happens. And it happens more than you probably know.
