
Louisiana Driver Arrested for 7th DWI After Allegedly Fighting Officers Following Crash
SHREVEPORT, La. - A Louisiana man's latest arrest is drawing attention online after police say he was involved in a crash, showed signs of impairment, and then allegedly fought with officers who arrived at the scene.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, the arrest happened early Saturday morning and resulted in what authorities say is the suspect's seventh DWI offense.
Shreveport Police Respond to Early-Morning Crash
According to the press release on Facebook, police say officers were patrolling near the intersection of Market Street and Texas Street around 1 a.m. on July 12 while monitoring a large crowd in the area when they heard a crash nearby.
When officers arrived, they discovered two vehicles involved in a collision. Investigators identified one of the drivers as Jacory Harris, who was standing near a white Dodge Ram that had sustained significant front-end damage.

Officers Noticed Signs Of Impairment
According to Shreveport Police, officers observed several signs that Harris may have been impaired. Authorities said his speech appeared slurred and he reportedly struggled to maintain his balance while standing.
Officers also noticed a Styrofoam cup inside the truck. Police say the situation escalated when an officer attempted to retrieve the cup from the vehicle.
Suspect Allegedly Then Became Combative

Police allege Harris grabbed an officer and then attempted to prevent him from accessing the vehicle. Officers then moved to detain Harris, but police say he resisted and became combative towards officers.

Harris was eventually taken to the ground and secured using a WRAP restraint system, which is used to safely control combative individuals who are violently kicking, flailing, or attempting to injure officers.
Harris was evaluated by the Shreveport Fire Department and transported to a local hospital. After being medically cleared, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Charges Include Seventh-Offense DWI
Police say Harris now faces multiple charges, including:
Battery of a police officer
Resisting an officer with force or violence
Seventh-offense DWI
According to authorities, this marks the fifth DWI arrest involving Harris and the Shreveport Police Department, his 7th DWI arrest in total.

The police report ends with a pretty important message to anyone who thinks physically challenging an officer is a good idea by saying "ALSO PS: If keeping your hands to yourself doesn’t sound like a good idea, just remember—our officers are trained to help you reconsider."
