(KMDL-FM) A national report has revealed a list of hospitals that appear to be "at-risk" for closure because of last year's Medicaid cuts. The list from Public Citizen suggests that several hospitals could find their doors shuttered.

Why Are More Than 400 Hospitals At-Risk of Being Closed?

Last year's Medicaid cuts that were included in legislation known as "The One Big Beautiful Bill" total about $900 billion. These cuts, according to the report by Public Citizen, could be the death knell for these healthcare facilities.

There could be even more cuts to healthcare if Congress chooses to use money set aside for that use to help cover costs incurred by the current military action in Iran. That legislation is just being discussed at this time, but the fact that more healthcare cuts could be made should be of interest to Americans who rely on services provided through Medicaid.

The list of At-Risk Hospitals, according to the Public Citizen report, includes 446 entries from across the country. Obviously, this is not an official report issued by the United States Government. This is more of a speculative survey based on the facts as presented.

We say that to say this, we are not aware of any confirmed hospital closings in Louisiana at this time. We just want to make that clear, but according to this survey, there could be several that might see a reduction in services or a shuttering of services altogether.

Still other medical facilities and hospitals included as being "at-risk" for closure in Louisiana included Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport in Shreveport, West Ascension Parish Hospital in Donaldsonville, and Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence.

Once again, we'd like to reiterate that the facilities referenced above are not closing, at least there has been no word from any official source that such actions have been or will be taken.

If you have concerns about a healthcare facility near you being shuttered, we encourage you to reach out to your elected officials and voice your concerns; that's still the best way to get things done.
