Louisiana Lottery Confirms Mega Millions Winner Sold In State
Census takers in Louisiana we need you to increase the state's population by one, please. It appears as if one, "Lady Luck", has moved back into the state and is here to make all of the state's lottery players incredibly wealthy. Okay, that's a fancy way to say lottery players in Louisiana have been hitting on some big wins recently and Tuesday's Mega Millions lottery game is the latest to produce a big winner in the state.
Mega Millions has been overshadowed a bit by the $1,000,000,000 jackpot in the Powerball game but the Mega Millions jackpot is nothing to sneeze at. Last night, July 18, 2023, the game's top prize at drawing time was estimated to be $640 million. Here's how the ping pong balls dropped.
The winning numbers as confirmed by the Mega Millions website were:
19 22 31 37 54 Mega Ball 18 Megaplier x4
Both the Mega Millions site and the Louisiana Lottery website are confirming that no single ticket sold across the game's footprint matched all the numbers needed to claim the Mega Millions jackpot of $640 million.
So, that jackpot will now grow to $720 million, that's the estimated annuitized amount for Friday's drawing. By the way, if you wanted the lump sum cash payment your check would be $396.6 million.
There were some big winners across the country. There were seven tickets sold for Tuesday's drawing that earned one million dollars by matching all five of the white ball numbers. Another Match 5 winner sold in Maryland not only did the Match 5 but they opted in on the Megaplier. That means their total haul from last night was $4,000,000.00.
Both the Louisiana Lottery and the Texas Lottery are confirming big money winners in last night's game. Texas Lottery officials say four tickets sold in that state were $10,000 winners while another ticket matched the numbers needed for a $10,000 prize but they opted in on the Megaplier so their total take will be $40,000.
In Louisiana, lottery officials have confirmed that a $10,000 winner was sold in the state for last night's game as well. That ticket matched four of the white balls and the Mega Ball. The Louisiana Lottery website has confirmed that the point of purchase for that winner was at Don's Country Store in Reserve Louisiana.
Tonight's Powerball drawing will feature a jackpot of at least one billion dollars. The last two Powerball games have produced $50,000 winners in the state. The most recent was Monday night's game and before that, there was a $50,000 winner sold for the Saturday drawing.
While tonight's Powerball jackpot of $1 billion is certainly big, it's not the biggest jackpot in the game's history. Just last year a ticket sold in California claimed a prize of just over $2 billion dollars. And, there have been at least nine other jackpots in the game with a top prize of one billion dollars or more.
Tonight's Powerball drawing will be at 10 pm. By rule, ticket sales must cease at least one hour before the drawing.
