(KMDL-FM) Louisiana's Lottery scene as of late has featured a lot of ups and downs. The jackpots are up, but the wins are down, of course, that is relatively speaking. The state's lottery players have had some big wins, but not as many in recent weeks as we saw closer to the first of the month. But there was a big Powerball win in Louisiana over the weekend.

The reason for the sudden lull in weekly winners across Louisiana is pretty simple. There aren't as many people playing the big money games of Powerball and Mega Millions because both of those games have had recent jackpot winners. For some reason, the prospect of winning only $20 or $30 million isn't as appealing as winning $250 million or more might be.

Which Lottery Game Has Had the Most Recent Jackpot Win?

Mega Millions has had the most recent jackpot wins. In fact, that game has produced two jackpot winners in the past two weeks. The most recent win was actually on St. Patrick's Day when a ticket sold in Ohio earned the game's jackpot prize of $60 million. This win occurred just a few days after an Illinois ticket earned a Mega Millions jackpot of $536 million.

Mega Millions will hold another drawing tonight. The estimated annuitized jackpot in tonight's game is $80 million. If you won and opted for the lump sum payout, you'd be paid an estimated $35.6 million.

How Much is The Powerball Jackpot?

Powerball has produced more winners in Louisiana than Mega Millions has, but that's because the game has been available in the state a lot longer. Powerball recently got a jackpot win of $250.8 million on March 3rd. That big money winner was sold in Arkansas. The Powerball jackpot has been building ever since.

On Monday night, the game featured a jackpot prize of $180.3 million, which was for the annuitized jackpot; the cash payout was estimated to be $80.9 million. Here is how that drawing unfolded.

Our sources at Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery have confirmed that no tickets sold for Monday's Powerball matched the numbers needed to claim the jackpot prize. The largest win on Monday that was earned by a Louisiana-sold ticket was $200. Seven players earned that amount. Two players earned $100 for their efforts in Monday's Powerball.

Lottery Confirms Winner Details on $50,000 Powerball Weekend Winner

The Louisiana Lottery has revealed the winners' details about Saturday's big win. No, it wasn't a jackpot win, but it was $50,000 earned in the March 28th drawing. The Louisiana Lottery has confirmed that the big money winner was sold in Houma at Houma Truck Plaza on Grand Caillou Road.

The ticket's purchaser did not opt for the Power Play function of the game, which would have boosted their winnings to $200,000, but $50,000 isn't bad for a two-dollar investment.
