When you live in Louisiana you're very familiar with the concept of joie de vivre. It fuels the fun from New Orleans to Shreveport and Lake Charles to Lincoln Parish. That "joy of life" is either something you're born with or you pick up when you move here, like the ability to shuck Louisiana oysters, boil Louisiana crawfish, and vote more than once in federal and state elections.

I think it's fair to say that in Louisiana we love love too. I have already noticed gentlemen staring glassy-eyed in the card aisle at the Walgreens Drug Store hoping that the card they choose will meet with favor from their dearly beloved.  As goofy as we menfolk are, most of us do try to please our Valentine's, especially on the day that is set aside for doing just that.

By the way guys, that's this Friday if you haven't checked your calendar. We don't want you to miss the chance to do something nice for the love of your life. And quite often the "loves of our lives" don't really want us to spend a lot of money on them for Valentine's Day. I have found that many Louisiana ladies appreciate a gesture almost as much as a gift.

By a gesture it could be something as simple as washing and cleaning out her car, maybe planting some flowers for her to adore all summer long in the flower beds outside her windows. Or in the case of the #Only in Louisiana story we're about to share with you, that gesture could involve hair removal.

Body hair is a matter of personal taste when it comes to what you do when the lights are off and the clothes are on the floor. The hair we are discussing in this story is not so much of the intimate variety but more of the animal variety.

The gentleman in question thought he would do something nice for his brand-new wife. He would help rid their home of unwanted pet hair. The couple in question had three cats, a Yorkie, and a ferret. So you can only imagine the amount of "extra hair" that was in the air.

What would do in a similar situation? Well, if you're the guy in this story, you get out the clippers and get to clipping. What could go wrong? It's only three cats, a Yorkie, and a ferret, right? Well, here's how the story unfolded as it was told to us.

If you couldn't hear the audio clip or the accent was a little too Louisiana for your ears, basically what our hero did was shave the three cats. That went without incident. Then he shaved the Yorkie. Again, there was no problem. It was the ferret that caused the loss of blood and created tension between our well-intentioned hero and his Valentine.

The moral of the story it's nice to do things for people you love. But apparently shaving a ferret is not something that will end well even if your intentions are good. And just for the record all of the animals are fine. The couple is still together and thriving even after more than a decade, this incident actually took place in 2013.

If you're wondering what a ferret looks like, look up. I can only imagine the pain that kind of a critter could inflict. And I guess we can say a relationship that can survive an attack by a half-shaved ferret is a relationship that is built on true love. Happy Valentine's Day.
