You would be hard-pressed to convince anyone from Louisiana that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. The reason we say that is because folks in Mermentau, Robert's Cove, Church Point, Breaux Bridge, Eunice, Crowley, and St Martinville view meals like they view children. They are all our favorites.

So to single out breakfast as the "most important" would be like having to pick a favorite child or grandchild, you only do that in private when the parents aren't listening. And while we jest about the meal that most of us use to kickstart our metabolisms every day we do have some serious news regarding ready-to-eat breakfast sandwiches.

The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service has confirmed that Hearthside Food Solutions has initiated a voluntary recall for some of its most popular breakfast products. The reason for the recall is the discovery of a known allergen in the product that was not included in the product's label.

What makes this recall particularly troublesome is where these products were shipped and sold. Yes, they are or were available in Louisiana, however, they were only available for shoppers who utilize the Army & Air Force Exchange Services.

The products were shipped to AAFES locations throughout the nation and it would certainly stand to reason that families who shop at the AAFES at Fort Jackson near Leesville or Barksdale Air Force Base near Shreveport might have some of these products in their freezers or refrigerators at home.

If you do, you need to discard the product or if you'd like to get a refund or exchange you can bring the affected product back to the AAFES location from where it was purchased.
