The voice on the other end of the line shares some incredibly troubling news with you. The voice says your Social Security Number is being used in illegal activities and that you're at risk of having your assets frozen, seized, or worse.  Naturally, it's a total scam designed to get you to give out important details about yourself so the bad guys can gain access to your money.

Phone calls just like that have been reported across the nation and now they're back in South Louisiana. The best advice local law enforcement or the Better Business Bureau can offer? Simply hang up the phone. That puts an end to the scam right there.

Think about it this way. If you or something you are linked too was involved in an illegal activity would they actually call you ahead of time? No, when illegal things are going on the police tend to show up in person. That's one red flag.

Another red flag may be the scammer's veiled sense of concern. Reportedly in this current scam potential victims are given a telephone number to call to "clear up the situation". The veiled sense of concern comes when the voice on the other end of the line tells the potential victim, "Now if you don't return the call then the only thing I can do is wish you a good luck as the situation unfolds on you."

The bottom line is this, if you get a phone call from someone you don't know or did not contact about doing business with then you don't need to be sharing any personal information. If the caller claims to be with a government agency simply hang up and call the agency directly. Besides, most governmental affairs are handled via the mail so there is a paper trail.
