Louisiana Places 3 On ‘Restaurants That Define Dining’ List
(KMDL-FM) Whenever there is a new "list" concerning restaurants and food and how it's prepared across the country, I always expect to find a Louisiana restaurant included. Whether the list focuses on the fancy and specific culinary skills or if the list is a simple compilation of hometown favorites, I believe a Louisiana restaurant should be represented.
It's true, I could be considered biased, but like New Orleans Saints broadcaster Bobby Hebert says about football, "I know what I know," and I know that Louisiana's food scene is unrivaled when it comes to variety, creativity, and ingenuity in the kitchen.
List Reveals Restaurants That "Define Dining Today"
Evidently, the folks at Resy.com feel similarly about Louisiana food. That's because in their recently published list of Restaurants Around the Country That Define Dining Today, they included not one, not two, but three Louisiana restaurants, and one of those choices was the second choice overall.

Resy.com, if you're not familiar, is a website that offers reservations to some of the best restaurants around the country. If you've ever booked a meal with OpenTable, you're probably familiar with the process. However, for the list that we are discussing today, Resy.com wanted to focus on eateries "that thrill us, that serve exceptional food that alternately might be comforting or daring, traditional or completely new".
The reason for the list, The Resy 100, is to spotlight places around the country that foodies might want to explore or revisit again and again. According to Resy.com, these 100 restaurants represent the best of today's dining culture.
What Louisiana Restaurants Made the "Define Dining Today" List?
Louisiana had restaurants on the list at positions #2, #38, and #53. Let's go in reverse order, shall we?
The #53 restaurant on the Resy.com list was a place called Fritai. It's in New Orleans in Treme. The restaurant offers a unique view of Caribbean favorites, particularly from Haiti. The dishes are authentic, playful, and flavorful, and offer an exciting experience that many other eateries don't even attempt to offer. If you like pork, seafood, goat, and other goodness from the Caribbean traditions, you might want to give Fritai a try.
The #38 restaurant on the Resy.com list was a place called Hungry Eyes in the East Riverside area of New Orleans. I love the description one of the Resy.com writers used about Hungry Eyes. They said, " It’s drinking food, semi-nostalgic but not trite". A tip of the cap to the New Orleans tradition of not letting good food spoil a good buzz. One suggestion was to order the "indecisive snacks". That's when you can't decide what to eat, and the kitchen makes the choice for you.
The restaurant that came in at #2 on the Resy.com list was also a New Orleans eatery. The restaurant in question is called Peche, and it is in Downtown New Orleans. The Resy.com staff called this place a perfect combination of classic New Orleans food and new school dining. Peche incorporates New Orleans goodness with the bold flavors of Southeast Asia. Have you ever experienced kimchi with your oysters? You could at Peche.
Those are just three of the 100 restaurants that made the list. Another hot spot of unique dining experiences is right down the road to the west. The Heights Area of Houston appears to have several entries on the Resy.com list, so if you find yourself traveling that direction, you won't go hungry. But then again, you'll probably stop at Buc-ee's and load up on Beaver Nuggets, won't you?
