(KMDL-FM) Alright, Summer is officially here. I mean, we've already had our first named tropical system roll through the Gulf South, and the Fourth of July is just a few weeks away. The TV weather guys are talking about heat advisories, so that must mean it's time for a cookout.
We love cooking out in Louisiana. There is nothing more satisfying to the palate and the need for social interaction than the combination of good burgers, cold beer, and better friends gathering with no particular agenda unless you happen to have been invited to a cookout that offers none of those.
What Makes A Cookout Good and What Makes a Cookout Bad?
We've all been invited to bad cookouts and barbecues; the key is learning how to identify which of those gatherings is going to be a bust and which is going to set the standard for good times in the future.

For our purposes today, we're looking at the signs that the cookout or barbecue you're attending is memorable for all of the wrong reasons. We've identified eight key components that every not-so-good cookout offers.

What Are The 3 Things You Should Consider Before Attending a Cookout?
Let's face it, a good gathering involves three specific parts that all have to come together as one for the event to be considered a success. The first of those items you'll want to consider is the guest list. Are you going to be hanging out with people who have a similar outlook on life, a similar sense of humor, and who don't like to talk politics?
You will probably have a good time at that event, but if the guest list leans another way, perhaps you should consider passing on the invitation.

The second agenda item that determines the quality of a cookout is the atmosphere. Is the yard spacious? Is there a pool? Will kids be invited? Do they have a dog? Will the dog be using the bathroom near where the food is being prepared? Those are all questions you could and should ask.

The third and perhaps most important aspect of planning a cookout is the food. Will it be food you like? Does the host know how to cook? Do they drink what you like to drink? Will all of this be on display on social media sites?

Those are great questions to ask, and we hope you will. But if you want to save time or you happen to be at a cookout and are looking for a sign that it's okay to leave. Here are eight of them. You're welcome.
