For a very weary electorate in Louisiana today could not come soon enough. The campaign for the United States Senate seat will mercifully come to an end when the polls close at 8pm tonight. The negative campaign advertisements will cease and either Mary Landrieu will remain in Washington or Bill Cassidy will move from the House of Representatives to the Senate.

This race was once thought to be the key to control of the Senate but November's election and outcome already secured control of congress for the Republican party. A win in Louisiana would be icing on the cake  for the GOP.

There are congressional races that are being decided today as well. Could former Governor Edwin Edwards earn a seat in congress? It would be an amazing political comeback story if he does. According poll numbers he currently trails Republican Garret Graves in the race for Bill Cassidy's former seat in Louisiana's 6th Congressional District

In Louisiana's 5th Congressional District, the seat one held by "kissing Congressman" Vance Mcallister, the race is between Jamie Mayo the Democratic Mayor of Monroe and Republican Ralph Abraham.

In Lafayette Parish voters are being asked to consider a tax proposal to improve the Lafayette Regional Airport. Those who support the airport tax have been pushing the idea by saying this tax will be limited to 8 months.

Supporters say the improvements are needed at the local airport because of the current terminal, parking, and physical plant of the facility are  operating at capacity. Passage of this limited time tax would allow Lafayette's airport to be better equipped to serve the growing air travel needs of Acadiana.

Voters in the City of Lafayette will choose a new City Marshal, long time incumbent Earl Picard did not qualify for the runoff in the November election. Voters will choose between Kip Judice or Brian Pope.
