LPD Unit Struck by Gunfire During Sunday Night Call
Lafayette Police are investigating an incident in which one of their own police cruisers was struck by gunfire. The incident happened on Sunday night as officers were responding to a call about midnight at a Mudd Avenue business in the city.
According to reports, several people had gathered at the location, and officers were called to clear the group from the scene. During that action, there were reports of a single gunshot. That shot, fired by an unknown individual at this time, struck the police cruiser in the tire.
There are conflicting reports as to whether an officer was or was not inside the vehicle at the time the shot was fired. What we do know is that no officers or bystanders were injured. Investigators are continuing to look into the incident as of now no suspects have been named and no one has been apprehended.
