The New Orleans Saints announced yesterday that they will be making a $25 million contribution toward fan amenity upgrades to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This marks the most significant private contribution by owner Tom Benson to the state-owned venue since owning the team.

The funds provided by the team will go toward improving the video boards and audio system in the nearly 40-year-old stadium. While the design is still in the planning stages, the stadium will have much larger state-of-the-art video boards in both endzones.

"Mr. Benson, through the New Orleans Saints, will be making a contribution of $25 million. Essentially no strings attached. It's going toward improvements to the video boards in the Superdome as well as other areas of the building, including better audio as well as new LED lighting in the arena," said New Orleans Saints team president Dennis Lauscha Tuesday afternoon.

There are some similar upgrades being made at the Smoothie King Center next door. Those changes will be done in time for the 2015-2016 New Orleans Pelicans season while the Superdome upgrades won't be ready until the 2016 Saints season.
