A city can never have too many places for kids to get outdoors and enjoy life.

And if you believe that, then you will be happy to know that there is a new playground that will be built in 2023 at Parc Sans Souci in Downtown Lafayette.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Downtown Lafayette Unlimited announced that after three years of planning and fundraising, the project is becoming a reality.

As you can see in the post, back in 2020, DLU headed up a privately-funded placemaking project to make this happen.

It appears that not quite all the money has been raised but the project will proceed soon. And if you want to contribute to help it get to the proverbial finish line, you can donate at this link: https://bit.ly/3n8hs9E or participate in Community Foundation of Acadiana's SOLA Giving Day on May 4.

While many on social media have expressed concerns that the posted concepts do not appear to show that the playground is accessible to those with disabilities, that does not seem to be the case.

According to the Community Foundation of Acadiana, the playground "will include swings, slides, seesaws, a merry-go-round, and climbing structures. It will also accommodate children with disabilities."

Where will this new playground be located within Parc Sans Souci?

According to Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, the playground will be located in the parking lot behind the little red building in Parc Sans Souci. It will extend to the grass area that backs up to the splash pad.

When will the new playground at Parc Sans Souci open?

Construction of the new playground will reportedly begin this summer and it's expected to be open by Thanksgiving.
