While some restaurants are beginning to reopen after the pandemic, others have remained closed.

But is the original Don's Downtown in Downtown Lafayette on the list of restaurants that are permanently closing due to the economic impact from COVID-19? For years there have been rumors of Don's calling it a career, but never have they had to endure the type of financial strain that has crushed local businesses in Acadiana and beyond for the past two months.

After doing curbside for a short time, Don's made the call to shutter their doors "temporarily" back on March 23 citing the shelter-in-place order from Governor John Bel Edwards.

Over the weekend, customers noticed that Don's wasn't reopened under limited capacity like most other restaurants which led to speculation that they may be closed. Francis N. Mouillé posted the news in the Lafayette Memories Facebook group and it quickly began to go viral with locals sharing their personal memories of Don's Downtown.
